A central swimming pool and the central lodge is where meals are served, it has a library and a bar where we meet to discuss your checklists, exchange sightings and hear your stories of travel. Wildlife is rich in the Lodge acreage, we have Chital and Wild Pigs resident on the property, who are often visited by Leopards and Dholes. In peak fruiting season, we even see Sloth Bears ambling around in daylight or on our camera traps. Our naturalists have been documenting several species of birds, butterflies, dragonflies, spiders, scorpions and many flowering plants and climbers.
In order to keep the property wild and not make the wildlife accustomed to our food waste it is responsibly segregated and composted. The plastic and other recyclable waste is sent across to the nearby city for disposal and certified recyclers.
To sustain such abundance of wildlife, we at Forsyth Lodge believe in minimal impact to the land, the lights are just enough to get you to meals and back to cottages, man-made sounds are limited around living areas so as to not disturb sleeping Langurs or the flower visiting Civets.
Even our wastewater is recycled. While the grey water from the cottages is used to irrigate lily ponds, the kitchen wastewater is released in a reed pond for recharging the ground water after natural filtration.

As a Leopard seeks respite in the cosiness of his canopy bed, our Gondia cottages and Machaans provide the same comfort and insulation from the Satpura climate, however hot or cold. We do have air-conditioning and heating when you need it. The room is a simple lap of luxury, with small signs of our sustainability efforts peppered all around. We provide you with all the basic amenities and comforts.
The bathrooms, with a view to the wild provide a unique experience of feeling one with nature, even when nature calls!
Each of the cottages boast a luxurious sit out area, totally integrated with the wild. When sprawled out on comfortable armchairs, one would often experience a beautiful bird flitting by, or a herd of deer munching noiselessly a few feet away.
Our premium Machaan cottages provide an additional place to sleep during the cooler months and when it’s hot, provide a canopy of cosiness, overlooking the 44 acres of wild that surrounds Forsyth Lodge.

Absolute pleasure and funfilled experience! If you are looking for a comfortable yet adrenaline filled Safari experience, Forysth is the place to be. I visited here between 8th to 10th January with couple of my friends. Everyone in the staff were so welcoming, courteous and amazing to have conversations with. The staff don't say no to anything that you request for and make you feel like you are on your own farmhouse. The food is to savour and the beautiful property reminds you of rich Indian culture. The Naturalists are really knowledgeable and accompany you to almost always (except if you want to have your own time) I would love to go to this place again if I plan to visit Satpura again.

Even better than the last time! Thank you Forsyth for yet another excellent vacation. It was flawless....no praise is enough for you guys...where going above and beyond is almost second nature to them. The rooms are very clean and comfy, the bathrooms are spotless and the food was exceptional, as was the coffee. Deepankar - we take our collective hat off to you. Until next time....

Fantastic This was our second visit to the lodge and it was as fabulous and memorable as the first one. The lodge itself is lovely, comfortable and the utmost care taken of its sanitisation and hygiene. Much appreciated in these difficult times. The food at Forsyth has got to be some of the best we have ever eaten and their chef, Krishna just amazing. Big shout out to Deepanker and his band of Merry naturalists. Each of them are knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and go above and beyond to make your stay and experiences as memorable as possible. A must visit and stay. We certainly will be back there again. Very soon.

A great lodge in a well managed park We visited Satpura Tiger Reserve in Dec 2020 and stayed at the lovely Forsyth Lodge for 3 nights. It was a memorable stay that far exceeded all my expectations. Satpura is a unique park which has brilliantly utilized it's buffer zone for sustainable tourism activities like boat safaris, night safaris, walking safaris and camping. These activities give an immersive experience to nature lovers unlike any other tiger reserve in India. Forsyth Lodge arranged all the above activities for us seamlessly. Walking through a dense jungle and camping on a river bank is an experience I will never forget. Unlike most other lodges Forsyth is run by knowledgeable, passionate and friendly Naturalists who go out of their way to give you a complete wildlife experience. The hospitality and attention to detail from the naturalists and the staff while taking care of the guests was immaculate. It almost felt like a personalised safari trip to me. The lodge's property is located in the buffer zone and includes a large area of 44 acres, out of which only 4 acres is used for the lodge itself. The remaining area is left to grow wild and you will see lot of birds and animals right inside the lodge during your stay. I had my first ever sighting of the malabar pied hornbill right in the sit out area of my cottage 🙂 Full marks to the Forsyth Lodge for running an eco friendly place with a bunch of friendly and passionate naturalists, who will ensure you leave the place with a better understanding of all the animals who call this lovely place home. Special shout out to Vineet, Deepankar, Rathik, Karthik and Sai for the wonderful experience. Highly recommended if you are a genuine nature lover looking for a quite stay away from the overcrowded parks of India!!!!

One of the best wildlife experiences ever. I spent 3 great nights with my family at Forsyth. The hospitality I’ve had here were second to none. All precautions were taken in accordance with the ongoing pandemic. The staff is focussed on giving you a zero to hundred experience of the wild. The rooms are great, the food is a delight, the naturalists are such great conversationalists. I have no complaints, only praises to sing for the exceptional staff, keep doing the great job. Special mentions to Deepankar, Animesh and Vineet. Thank you guys, you all are the best at what you do. Cheers.

Wilderness at its BEST! Spent 2 glorious nights at this superb lodge. It started with a very nice welcome. All precautions for COVID diligently followed. At the time of check-in, our vehicle, the luggage was properly sanitized. Our body temperature and Oxygen level were monitored, and we were taken directly to our cottage. The lodge area is huge and very well maintained, and tastefully done. The cottages are beautifully decorated, very well maintained, and come with all the facilities one expects at a luxury lodge. The outside sitting area attached to every cottage completes the sense of being very tastefully pampered A Machaan with a king-size bed. Beautiful! All meals served were delicious. They grow a lot of vegetables in-house. The chef customizes each meal. It was my birthday, and the Forsyth team planned a beautiful surprise for me. A candlelight dinner at the poolside was an amazing experience. Special chocolate cake, lanterns around the pool made the atmosphere serene. Special mention and shout-out for Forsyth team comprising of Deepankar, Saee, Aniket, Kartik, and Vineet. They are the BEST! The way the entire team takes care of the guests is commendable.Overall a WOW experience.

Outstanding staff and facilities We travelled to Satpura in early October and stayed at Forsyth for 2 nights. The lodge, its people, and its facilities are truly amazing. Vineet, Animesh, and Saee are great naturalists who know everything about Satpura and the wildlife, and go to any lengths to make sure you get a wonderful wildlife experience at Satpura. The hotel staff team led by Deepanker manages the property nicely, serving you delicious food, keeping everything clean, sanitised, and well-managed. They never deny any of your requests, making sure you have a lovely stay. The rooms, bathrooms, common areas, and lodge surroundings are beautifully done as well. Highly, highly recommend!

Great Place to Stay and Fantastic Wildlife Experience Our group of four spent four nights at Forsyth Lodge. The lodge and the staff were absolutely amazing. Our room was incredible. It was large and comfortable and additionally, it had another open air room on top of it, with another large bed (complete with insect netting), if you preferred to spend a night closer to nature. Meals at Forsyth Lodge were treated as an event. We ate in different areas of the lodge, including the dining room, poolside and in a very cool BBQ area a short walk from the bungalows, which they set up beautifully. They had an excellent and fast laundry service and our wakeup call included a delivery of coffee and/or tea. Breakfast was served on the road, during our safari. Our guide, Animesh, was amazing. He was very passionate and knowledgeable about the wildlife in the area, which was quite abundant. We even spotted wildlife around the lodge and on our way to the game drives. All and all, Forsyth Lodge and Satpura Tiger Reserve were an amazing experience, and certainly a worthy part of any Indian wildlife expedition. I would highly recommend.

FAQs

Given the amount of land available at Forsyth’s (44 acres) why are the cottages not dispersed more widely?
We adhere to the responsible eco-tourism guideline of using about 10% of land for construction and allowing the balance to revert to wilderness. We also use live fencing around the property i.e. no barbed wire for better wildlife safety. It’s certainly pretty good as we have had bears (right outside the main building) and leopard pugmarks in the property. We have resident wild boars on the lodge grounds along with rusty spotted cats, jungle cats, spotted deer, Indian hare (Rufous tailed), monitor lizards, jackals and palm civets.
Is it safe to walk in the property? Sit or sleep out in the Machaan at night?
Yes, it is safe to walk on the pathways but its better to be accompanied by any of the staff for a walk in the wilder part of the property. In the night you should always carry a torch, so you do not step on anything unknowingly, this is also the best way to avoid getting bitten by snakes or Scorpions. Animals to venture within the property but they are all extremely shy and usually will stay away from us. We also avoid serving any food in the cottages to avoid mice and their reptilian predators.
Do animals come to the sit out?
No, except for Langurs which do jump on the cottage roofs and trees nearby, the other animals stay a safe distance away from us as they are more scared of us than we are of them.
Can we have a party or play music?
As a responsible jungle lodge, we follow the rules of the forest department and do not allow any recorded music within the property as it will disturb the serenity of the jungle atmosphere and the creatures around. Your most welcome to sing and play an instrument like the guitar, I am sure some of us will join in.
Can we have a campfire?
Yes, during the winter months we do provide campfires in outdoor sitting areas, but they must be monitored and managed so that the fire doesn’t spread to the surrounding grassland or forest even by accident.
